A good week from Biograd covers 50–100 NM: no more than 15–25 NM a day, sailing in the morning and, for every night, a spare bay or harbour in case the forecast turns.
1. How many miles a day
1Count on 5–6 kn average speed: 15 NM is about three hours under way.
2Keep the first and last days short: the first to settle in, the last to be back by 18:00 and refuel.
3Leave one day a week unplanned, for swimming or for the wind.
Our itineraries have the miles for each day calculated over water; the shortest week is Pašman and Ugljan, the most demanding the Zadar archipelago.
2. When to sail
In summer the morning is the calmest; the maestral (NW) usually picks up after midday. Leave by 10:00 and be at your destination by 15:00, when buoys and marinas fill up in season. Read the forecast with the guide Bora, jugo and maestral.
3. Plan B
| Forecast | What to do |
|---|---|
| Bora (NE) | shelter under a shore to the north-east: Telašćica, Žut, marinas |
| Jugo (SE) | avoid bays open to the south; a harbour or marina |
| Thunderstorm | stay in port or at a safe anchorage until it passes |
