A skipper handles the yacht, the route and the mooring while you choose the bays and the pace. You need one if nobody in the crew holds a boat licence and a VHF certificate, or if you want a holiday without responsibility for the boat.
1. When you need a skipper
- Nobody in the crew holds a recognised licence; see Licences and papers.
- You hold a licence but have little experience with a yacht of this size.
- On some yachts a skipper is required; the yacht page says so and the price already includes it.
2. What a skipper does
The skipper takes over the yacht at the base and returns it, sails, moors and anchors, deals with marinas and parks and watches the forecast. They are happy to teach: many guests steer with more confidence after a week with a skipper. What is included is listed on the skipper page.
3. Living with a skipper
1The skipper sleeps aboard: count one cabin or berth for them.
2The skipper’s food is paid aboard: you cook for them or treat them in the konoba.
3Berths, buoys and park tickets are paid as usual; a tip is not required.
Frequently asked questions
How much is a skipper?
It depends on the yacht and the week; prices with a skipper for available yachts are on the skipper page.
Can I choose the skipper?
The base team assigns the skipper; tell us your language and wishes and we choose accordingly.
Does the skipper decide the route?
You choose where; the skipper decides how and when, by the wind and safety.
